Switch a hymnal between languages

Some hymnals come in more than one language — here is how to spot them, switch while reading, and add another language.

Updated October 20, 2026

Some hymnals are published in more than one language — the same book in English, French, Yorùbá, and more. Sacred links those editions together so you can move between languages without losing your place.

Spot a multi-language book

In the catalog and in your library, a book that comes in several languages shows a small “N languages” badge on its cover.

See the other languages

Open a hymnal’s page and look for “Also available in”. It lists every language the book comes in. A language you’ve already downloaded opens straight away; one you haven’t shows a download prompt.

Switch while reading

While you’re reading a hymn, tap the translate icon at the top and choose a language:

  • If the book uses the same hymn numbers across languages, you land on the same hymn in the language you picked.
  • If each language is numbered separately, Sacred opens that language’s hymn list so you can choose.

Add another language

In the language switcher, a language you don’t have yet appears greyed out. Tap it — a free book downloads in place and becomes selectable as soon as it finishes; a paid one opens its details page so you can unlock it.

Tip

Your favorites, tags, and personal edits are tied to each hymn, so switching languages never disturbs them.
